Graduation: Nine Weeks Away
By Delinda Hamilton / Eagle's Eye Reporter On 16.03.09
Seniors, don’t panic. Those who missed the graduation fair recently can still order and purchase everything they will need at the Sierra Nevada College bookstore for graduation.
In nine weeks seniors will be walking across the platform on the Patterson Hall lawn to receive their diploma. This can’t be done in jeans and a T-shirt. Now is the time to buy necessities like your cap and gown, tassel and invitations; to arrange catering and local accommodations for family and friends. Also available are wish-list items like class rings, alumni accessories, and photographs of your special moment.
Sierra Nevada College held its second annual graduation fair Feb. 19. It was held in a sunny corner of Patterson Hall, complete with white table clothes, colored balloons, fresh flowers and delicious refreshments.

SNC ski team coach gains American citizenship
By Hedvig Spangs / Eagle's Eye Reporter On 14.03.09
The following story is from Sierra Nevada College's campus newspaper, the Eagle's Eye.
Gaining U.S. citizenship is no easy task, but after six years of living in the states, Sierra Nevada College’s own Branko Zagar became an official American citizen four weeks ago.
The thought of moving from Slovenia first arose for Zagar and his wife when their daughter Meta was born in 1998. He and his wife, Urska, wanted her to get an education in the U.S. in order to better her future.
“We started to work on getting a green card the year that Meta was born,” said Zagar. “At the same time we applied to a green card lottery. After three years, we found out we got picked out.”
SNC Faculty Feature: Robert Mcmahon
By Jenna Fay Bache / Eagle's Eye Reporter On 14.03.09
Robert Mcmahon is the new Literary Criticism professor for the English department. He received his PhD in literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He came to Sierra Nevada College after teaching English at Louisiana State University and lives in Incline Village.
“I was fed up with LSU,” McMahon said. “I was there for 21 years. My parents live out west and we needed to be closer to them. My wife’s parents live in Incline Village. I was lucky there was a private liberal arts college that would let me get my teaching fix in.”
Not only is he a professor, but he is also a professional literary critic.
“Criticism isn’t really the right word. That’s what they call us because that’s where the profession came from. But what I really do is help people understand literary works better and more deeply,” Mcmahon said. “I write interpretations of literature, I don’t criticize. I’m really a scholar of old books.”
