Ian Dasmann is serving with the U.S. Army Reserve in Afghanistan, and will be receiving Girl Scout cookies.

Over 1,200 boxes of Girl Scout cookies will be shipped to men and women serving in the military overseas. The boxes were purchased by the community as part of the “Cookies for a Cause” promotion by 12 local Girl Scout troops from Incline Village to Tahoma.

For example, Zachary McConnell, a U.S. Marine from Kings Beach, and his company will receive eight boxes of cookies purchased by Troop 558. The troop is composed of high school juniors Nicole Ramm, and Amber, Carlie and Sierra Postler, and is led by Eve Ramm.

Troop 507 is sending cookies to Ian Dasmann, who is currently a Chief Warrant Officer serving as a Medievac pilot with the U.S. Army Reserve out of Stead, Nev.

Soldiers in Iraq to receive Girl Scout cookies

cookies for a cause
During February and March, the Girl Scout troops from North Tahoe and Truckee sold “Cookies for a Cause,” gathering boxes of Girl Scout cookies to send to military personnel who live in the area, or are related to someone in the area.

For the past several weeks, the Lake Tahoe Review has been featuring the troops selling the cookies and the service men and women who are benefiting from “Cookies for a Cause.” The cookies will be packaged and sent to the individual military service men and women, and their companies, in April.

The troops have also been collecting money for the postage to mail the boxes of cookies. Bonnie Dodge, Troop 1041 leader, said members of the Tahoe City Rotary Club donated $600, collected during the club’s meeting March 17.

The Girl Scout Troop 137 has been selling Girl Scout cookies to send to Thomas Hill, a corporal from Truckee who is serving in the Marines in Iraq.

North Shore Girl Scout troops are selling “Cookies for a Cause.” The troops are asking the public to purchase Girl Scout cookies that they will send to 18 members of the U.S. military in April. Each Girl Scout Troop has adopted a US Military person stationed overseas fighting for our country.  The goal is to send our adopted US Military person enough cookies so they can distribute a box to each person in their unit, giving each solider a gift from home, letting them know their North Shore neighbors still care.

The Lake Tahoe Review will be featuring the Girl Scout troops who are selling “Cookies for a Cause” during the next month, as well as the service man or woman each troop is sending cookies to.
