Keep the Sierra green - Regional green business recognition program announced

Keep the Sierra Green (KSG) is a new program designed to recognize community business leaders focused on sustainable ecological and economic practices in the North Central High Sierras and Foothills. The KSG program is a self certifying, voluntary check list of various waste reduction, pollution prevention and energy conservation measures. The check list is modeled after the Bay Area Green Business Program and has been refined and tested for local application.
Extreme skier and activist guest speaker at Junior Olympics opening ceremony

Her presentation is part of the Opening Ceremonies Sunday for the 2009 Cross Country Junior Olympic Ski Championships at Auburn Ski Club Training Center March 8-14. The Opening Ceremonies, including Gannett's show, are from 3 to 4:45 p.m.
Gannett is the founder of Save Our Snow Foundation and The Office of Resource Efficiency. Her goal is to raise global warming awareness using action sports as the conduit.
Crab feed: Only three bags of trash

Second only to Earth Day, the Incline High School’s Boosters Crab Feed was the largest, single event diversion for the Zero Waste Project, according to Madonna Dunbar, of WasteNot.
Over 500 people attended the Crab Feed Feb. 7, dining on a four-course meal of salad, pasta, crab, dessert and drinks.
Blue Bag curbside recycling to expand to South Shore in 2009

Blue bags are intended for the collection of commingled recycling, meaning you do not need to sort contents by material type. In order to participate, residents are required to purchase blue bags from various retailers within the area.
