The driving range at the Championship Golf Course still has snow on the fairways. The Championship Course is expected to open May 20 and the Mountain Course is slated to open May 15, weather permitting.

The Golf Course cancellation policy will be brought before the Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees during the board’s meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the IVGID administrative offices.

The staff recommendations include a 72-hour cancellation policy for golf club tournaments, the Wednesday/Tuesday Golf Club maintenance day shotgun, and for regular tee times.

According to the IVGID board packet, found on the website, www.ivgid.org, the goal is to maintain 26,000 rounds of golf this year and possibly increase to 28,000 rounds.

The Golf Club’s usage has dropped in the past three years, with only Incline Village Golf Club increasing usage by 2.9 percent, while Teesters is down 6.5 percent and TIGC down by 14.91 percent. The total allocation in 2008 was 6,080 rounds, of which 67.6 percent were used.

If there is a 72-hour cancellation policy, there are potentially 1,615 rounds that might not be sold, according to the board packet. In prime time months, it will not as difficult to sell those unused rounds in the 72-hour time frame, but in shoulder months, it will be difficult to sell them, the packet indicated.

The choice before the IVGID board is whether to stay with a 72-hour cancellation notice for the Golf Club’s benefit, or take the risk that the club’s unused tee times will not sell during that cancellation period.

“The risk/reward impact is worth going with a hard 72-hour cancellation policy for the Golf Clubs, since they have committed to working with the Golf Team to increase their utilization percentages for all allocated times as well as the commitment from IVGD to spend more on food and beverage as the result of the number of shotguns which all golf clubs are entitled to this year,” reads the conclusion presented by Bill Horn, IVGID general manager.

Also on the agenda is a report by Finance Director Ramona Cruz on changes between the 2008-09 budget and the 2009-10 budget, as well as a hefty consent calendar.
